dodge caravan ignition control recall
i just received the letter for the ignition control. now i called the dealer and i get from them is that i need to bring in the vehicle first for a 45min inspection. like wtf do u going to do in 45min to verify a switch that is already on recall instead of just replacement? are they paying a tech to sit there to turn on my vehicle like 100 times and say on report like oh all good we tried it 100 times and we think you safe? is this normal practice. sounds to me either chrysler or dealers are trying to cash in an extra time to charge chrysler for. to me if the recall is a recall cause they know production dates that those parts where used on.

Safety Recall L25
Wireless Ignition Node Module Detents
2010 (RT) Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country
NOTE: This recall applies only to the above vehicles built through May 17, 2010 (MDH 051700).
2010 (JC) Dodge Journey
NOTE: This recall applies only to the above vehicles built through January 23, 2010 (MDH 012300).
The Wireless Ignition Node (WIN) Module on about 166,000 of the above vehicles may have unintentional movement of the Frequency Operated Button Ignition Key (FOBIK) from the “ON” to the “Accessory” position while driving. This could cause unintended engine shut off and increase the risk of a crash under certain driving conditions.
The WIN module must be interrogated using a wiTECH scan tool and certain WIN modules will have a secondary WIN detent system installed. Models IMPORTANT: Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer used vehicle inventory. Dealers should complete this recall service on these vehicles before retail delivery. Dealers should also perform this recall on vehicles in for service. Involved vehicles can be determined by using the VIP inquiry process. Subject Repair

Obviously, you have had some problems with your ride and Chrylser. But DodgeCaravan2010SXT - you got to relax before you have a heart attach!
Hmm. Two hours waiting for a tow truck while standing on the side of a blistering hot freeway with my petrified family wondering how we just survived an engine stall in the middle of 80 mph bumper to bumper traffic then another day waiting to hear whats wrong with my $30K van ... or 45 minutes sitting in an air conditioned waiting room watching the tube or reading the paper while sippping a cuppa or coke and probably downing a free donut or two. Hmm.
Far be it from me to defend Chrysler Corp but 45 minutes sounds v e r y reasonable.

well 45 min be very reasonable if they replaced the thing

ok off to get my chill coffee now
edit: i think mine was built dec 15 2010 but delivered to dealer by jan 15 2010.

All you do is connect a scan tool to the vehicle, check to see who made the WIN and if a certain manufacturer made it, install a little clip over the end where the key goes. It takes about 20 minutes or so. It's to keep the key from accidentally turning off while your driving.
thanks tizzy. they actually like having issues with supplying this. atleast that what the dealers 3 i talked to. backorder. now i am not sure if they ordering everything or just the clip. you dont have a bullitin to the how to techs to perform this service?
I pretty much explained it. There are 3 different manufacurers of the WIN module. One doesn't have issues, the other 2 do. So you check with the scan tool to see who made it, if it's one with issues, you install a cap thing over where the key goes. It has a rubber piece in it so you have to force the key past it, on and off. That's the entire repair. All recalls are a challenge to get. You can only order so many per week and it's not that many. We have the L25, not sure how many. I'd copy it but the new stuff you can't cut and paste.
