Fuel Gauge Not Reading Correctly -- ALWAYS on (E)
I own a 2002 Dodge Caravan SE here in Canada. The vehicle runs fine however the fuel gauge almost never reads the correct value of gas within the tank.
I've already tried the self diagnostics (have car off and hold down trip reset button until it changes). The diagnostic is fine. When we add gas to the tank (let's say $10) it will start of reading 25% but then slowly creep downward as we drive (the DING sound would have occurred by now) until finally it is flat-line sitting directly over E.
It is very difficult determining how much gas we have when the needle is always reading E. Again for a brief moment when we start the car occassionally it will jump to a preset marker (25%, 50%) but again the needle will fall lower and lower till it ends on E.
There is no gas leak in the car.
Do you have a solution to this very annoying fuel gauge reading problem?

You may have a problem with the float in the gas tank. It could have a pin hole in the float and when the float fills up it will drop down in the tank. Causing the fuel gauge to read E and the fuel light to go on.
Ok i followed the instructions for checking for any kinks on the hose leading from the LDP to the LDP Air Filter. From what i can see and feel the hose is fine. I also looked at the hoses entering / exiting the LDP. They also look fine. The following photos are of the Lead Detection Pump hose leading from the LDP to the Filter. The bottom of the filter can be seen in the second photo (top left of photo). In the first photo you can see the outer sleeve of the LDP hose is exposing something inside. I assume that is normal.

At the rear of the car i removed the Fuel Pump Connector and grounded PIN #3 (attached it to pin #1 or pin #2). I was expecting the fuel gauge to jump to Full once grounded but it did not move; it remained on E. From the other post this indicates the problem is not the Fuel Pump area.
I'm confused. Could the issue be the LDP Air Filter needs replacing?

If this were the case wouldn't removing the gas cap make the gauge immediately jump to a normal reading? Seems to me removing the cap would let air in the tank illiminating the vacuum. Not a fix but a troubleshooting step.

does it work if you fill it up/pump auto shut off?
the reason it would drop quickly is 10$ only gets less then 3 gallons which is not much when the van can hold 16gallons which is less then 1/4 tank
probably not the problem, but could try if you haven't already
We've tried adding $10, $20, and filling up the tank. The fuel gauge is now FIXED on Empty. It does not move whatsoever.
