Question 06 Dodge Caravan Error code p0456

I have an 06 Dodge Caravan with 87000 miles on it. About a month ago the engine light came on with the error code p0404 which was the EGR valve. Took that apart and cleaned out the hose, but was unable to get the proper gasket for it. Because I needed the car, my husband put a gasket seal goo and we tightened her up and the light went out. About 2 weeks ago, the light was back on. This time it was p0456 which is the Evaporative Emissions System. I fooled with the gas cap, reset the battery and the light went out for about 2 weeks. It came back on last night. If there was truly a leak in the EES, would the light have remained out for the entire two weeks? I am wondering if I may just need a new gas cap? Any thoughts?
This is my 3rd Caravan in 20 years and have never had any issues with any but this one.

welcome the site. idk abut the caravans but on the rams we sometimes find loose or cracked vacuum lines under the truck from the tank causing those issues also

The year of van has a NLVD pump and the switch in the pump may have a problem. Check all your hoses and have a evap test done. This will let you know if there are any other codes in the evap system.

Clear the codes by disconnecting the neagtive battery cable for 2-3 minutes and see if the code returns. http://www.obd-codes.com/p0456

Small leak could be anything from a cracked hose to an internal leak in the NVLD or Purge solenoid. Try a gas cap, reset and see what happens. That's always going to be cheaper than a diag fee.

Thanks all so much...Due to some severe weather in Maine, I have been unable to get under the car to check hoses. This morning I had to use the car. I drove about 30 miles (engine light still on) Went to an appointment, and when I returned to the car about an hour later...The engine light was out. I then drove for about another 40+ miles, running errands, grocery shopping etc. The light at this moment is still out. I just don't get it. I did nothing different today that I haven't done in the last month. I think my car is a temperamental shrew!

I haven't topped it off in nearly 2 months. The funny thing is, I had not even put gas in it at all when the engine light had come on both times. It was days later. I am in the process of trying to get this thing ready to sell and every time I'm just about there...She puts her "Hey Hey, you're not selling me" light on. I'm thinking, if the light does come back on again, I will have to bite the bullet, and take it up for a diagnostic. Will get the new gas cap first.
