Default Transmission second gear only, Help!

I have 92 Caravan 3.3L Automatic. The transmission only has second gear and reverse. It starts out in second gear and will not shift. I don't have 1st or 3rd gear at all. I checked the fluid and it is good.
Is there anything else I can check out? Tips?

this is a tough one and I'll get chastized for sure. some will tell you to throw some sensors at it. I won't

the tips are a quality scanner connected to the blue diagnostic connector near the fuse block under the dash (driver side)

NO autozone can't do this. See if your local highschool autoshop can help out with scanning for codes if you have any connection with students or faculty. or do some local networking to see if you can find someone with tools skills, knowledge to directly assist with code retrieval. Or just spend a bunch of money at the local autoparts store for relays, solenoid packs, sensors, switches etc and hope for the best. I guess the choice is yours.

if you were near me, i'd diagnose it for you for $40 which I'd apply toward any needed repairs.

Took it to a transmission shop and had it rebuilt. Nothing else I could have done. Thanks

bummer, that's pretty impressive that a shop rebuilt your trans in under 48hrs. I personally can't see paying a shop to rebuild a trans on a 20 year old minivan.

I sure would want to know why it needs to be rebuilt????

Did the transmission shop tell what was wrong with it?

The transmission wont be ready until 9/12 Monday. They said the clutchs, torque convertor was bad and they recommended a complete rebuild. I have a 145000 miles on the vehicle and it is still in great shape and I want to keep it. A trans. rebuild is cheaper than buying a new car.

I have rarely ever seen torque converters just go bad in these transmissions.

if clutches were bad the trans would be slipping like crazy which you didn't state that being an issue. sure would be nice to know the codes and CVI values of your trans.

Be sure you get a new trans, I've seen a lot of shady shops 'replace the trans" by just fixing the problem and never actually rebuilding.
