Default 2004 GC Speedometer Half Lit

I have found lots of answers here but I can't seem to find out how to fix a backlight problem on the instrument panel. Half of the Speedometer does not light up...everything after 45 mph is dark. Is this a fuse? A bulb? I've seen the wiring diagrams and pictures of the fuses, but I can't figure out which one I would need to deal with.

Thanks in advance...

Dawn

just burnt out bulbs. Cluster comes out pretty easy.

REMOVAL
  1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  2. Remove Over Steering Column Bezel by lifting it straight up with a firm pull. (part of the cluster bezel trim, just infront of the column)
  3. Remove the four cluster bezel attaching screws.
  4. Tilt the steering column in the full down position.
  5. Pull rearward on the cluster bezel and remove.
  6. Remove the four screws holding instrument cluster to instrument panel.
  7. Rotate top of cluster outward.
  8. Disconnect the cluster harness connector.
  9. Remove instrument cluster from instrument panel.

Thanks! Sounds simple enough. I'll see what I can accomplish this weekend and come back with the results.

Well, I managed to remove the instrument cluster as instructed. Piece of cake. I identified the little bulbs needing replacement. I couldn't find any auto parts store that carried these. I will check with the dealer and on-line if necessary.

HOWEVER, after replacing the instrument cluster and putting everything back, now the Speedometer and Tachometer don't work. Did I mess something up?

Okay, nevermind. I found my answer in another post. I will have to remove the cluster again and rotate it until the needles are on the correct side of the little post. Will the calibration be correct?

Yes, you don't have to remove it, just do the self test, I think it's in the diy section.

Default Give yourself a hand!

Thanks so much! I did have to buy the bulbs at the dealership yesterday (3 times the price I could have gotten them at RockAuto.com) because I wanted them like yesterday! Instructions were
great. I would only add that watch the position of the gauge needles when you put the whole thing back together.

Piece of cake!
