2001 GC Tailgate lock won't engage
Last night the tailgate lock would not engage. Shut the hatch it bounces back up.
I swapped out 40 amp fuses in the mainx box. That did not fix it. The latch moves, but would not engage. Today I have taken off the back panel, removed the entire lock assembly that was held in place with three bolts.
The remote had no effect on it.
Any suggestions on what might be causing the lock to not engage. It doesn't appear to be jammed since it moved and the first fuse check was no-go.
About years ago the motor that operated the auto-hatch opening quit working but we just lived with that. Now since the lock will not engage.. that's more critical since we have the door tied shut now.

obvously something in the mechanism is jambed preventing the latch from locking. how about maybe junkyard hunting for a replacement assembly?
that problem is one reason why I don't own a gen 4 minivan. what's wrong with a latch the can actuate mechanically? I'm not so lazy that I need to have my vehicle open my door.
