Default A/C only works if I bypass clutch relay

I had my compressor replaced because it would not turn on. The first compressor I bought had a bad clutch coil and kept blowing a fuse. I exchanged it for another compressor and now it only works if I bypass the A/C clutch relay. I have already swapped relays and still it wont come on when I press the A/C button. It will only come on if I bypass the relay. I was told that the A/C button on the dash control is bad. How can I check if it is? Can the switch be fixed or replaced? When I took the car to the mechanic to change the compressor, the computer PCM died and had to also replace it with a refurbished one from ebay. Could the problem have to do with the computer.

Welcome to DF
You did not post the year of your van. Because there is a TSB for some years on a compressor failure.

And I can't look up wiring diagrams without knowing if this is a 1984 or a 2011 or something in between.

Default Info

Its a 2003 Dodge Caravan SE 2.4L Engine. Sorry for not including those details. I am leading towards the PCM refurbished replacement being bad. This refurbished PCM is also giving me P0032 for both oxygen sensors, which I was not getting before. I found this post that leads also to a fault on the computer. Read the last 2 post on that thread. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-c...ompressor.html How can I test for sure if its the computer? I would have to buy a multimeter?

Smile New Info

I just called the people who sold me the computer and they said that to check the wiring for the O2 sensors since I was getting P0032 OBD code. They said that that could affect the A/C switch from turning on clutch. Does that make sense? I am not a mechanic, but I can learn quickly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

I have a 2001 with same problem, took it to the dealer ($$$$) and they found a bad temp switch in side cabin air box , sensor was stuck at -10 deg and thus would not let compress engage.

Do you know the name of the sensor thats inside the cabin air box? Can it be reached by removing the center console or does the dash need to be removed?
