Ours and most dealers use the vin to look up parts to eliminate the confusion. We're cheaper on some things and more expensive on others but they are factory parts. You couldn't give me an alternator or starter from most aftermarket stores, not really in the mood to ever do a job more than once.

For EGR valve, I would stay away from aftermarket. I known it is $30 more, But would you do a EGR valve job again for $30?
How long did the Factory one lasted you? the one you buy from dealer should last just as long. make sure you clean the EGR tube with a cloth hanger when you do the job.

I bought an aftermarket EGR valve for my van. Given that it only took about 50 minutes to install from pulling the van in to pulling it back out it didn't seem like that bad of a job to me. Mine is also with the XZZ option and I was able to source an aftermarket valve for $65 plus shipping from Rock Auto. Since I combined shipping with a friend it was only about $80 all-in, or $50 cheaper than the cheapest local dealership, and I got my EGR valve faster than they could have.

So do many aftermarket starters and alternators, but I won't put them on unless I have to. I have them rebuilt at a qualified shop. Even though I can swap out an alternator on some of our vans in ten minutes, it's the time off the road that is the hassle.
