Actually is noticeably loud while in the car, passenger side, where feet go. Can't hear it when car gets rolling.

Also, car purrs and no laboring sound when the belt is off the car.

I will try what you said and listen for the sound. I need to hear a replicate sound, right?

But if it is in the alternator, does that mean i have bad alternator? Maybe power steering pump, even though it moves smoothly. This is a tuff one for me.

Too bad I didn't catch this sooner, because I found the easiest/cheapest solution for my chirping serpentine belt on a message board. Ajax(or Comet)! That's right, just sprinkle some on the idler pulley while the engine is running and the noise disappears like magic, forever. This might be the cure for your laboring noise too. Worth a shot.

Right, but the chirping sound is now gone since replacing belt. How would the laboring sound potentially be removed, by ajax, since I don't know where sounds origin is?

thanks for input anyway

That sound is the alternator decoupler pulley. The part is http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/x,cata...ES_37015P.html

Hey, thanks for responding. Someone else on internet told me that it was potentially the decoupler. But the sound appears to be back by water pump or pwr steering pump area.
Could the sound area be masked?
Is that the sound you had for the pulley?
How would I get the pulley off?

Big thanks for info. you provided. Sounds very similar to mine, like a diesel engine. Do you know if that part will work for a dodge caravan 06 or similar year 04 to 07 also?

Is the gates pulley at rockauto the pulley that is OAD type (over running)? i couldn't tell by what I read. Is it similar to the video link you listed for Litens?

Where did you get the tool for the removal? How much did it cost?

Are you planning on removing the pulley from the alternator without removing alternator? Please, please let me know how it went after your done/

Take a good look at the Air Conditioning compressor too. Does the sound go away if all the heat/cool are turned off? Does the compressor pulley turn easy when you had the belt off? Hope this helps!

Default Problem solved

Problem solved.6 mts of sounding like a diesel engine. I listed to other on youtube explain their situation. I took a stethscope bought for 3 bucks that also helped confirm my problem. Finally i posted my sound, see above and another poster said he had same sound.

it was my pulley on alternator. i bought one from good year, oad, over ridding pulley decoupler. needed special tool to pull it off or make one. i could explain if you need to know. i didn't make one.

i went to rebuild alt. shop who had the tool. they charged 13.50 to take off and install the new one i bought for 48.00 dollars.

sound all gone. Thank God. I did some praying about that one.

Thanks for inquiry and input
