Default Need some help with Trans stuck on Limp mode please

97 DGC, 233K miles. Trans rebuild at 175K and added a trans cooler.

Yesterday evening while driving home on Interstate suddenly trans dropped off gear. Pulled on the side of the road and sure enough, I was in Limp Mode. 40 Miles away from home, 95% highway = AAA tow truck home.

Checked the Trans fluid level. It was indeed fairly low. Refilled. Engine light of course on, codes say faulty Output Sensor & error in 3rd Gear Ratio. A little odd in my mind as I did test drive the car around the neighborhood and the speedometer works just fine. I would have thought the Input Sensor to be faulty.

Anyway, changed Output Sensor, disconnected battery to reset codes (my tool will not reset). Car fires right back on but now idles at 800rpm (was 350rpm before). Another oddity: the radio comes on; I turn it off and it turns back on again! I turn it off - it stays off this time. Turn the engine off, take key out, back in, restart. Radio does the same thing! It does not remember the last state!

Took test drive, went all the way up to 40 miles per hour, suddenly drops out of gear. NO Check Engine light! Drive back home, still no light. Tried driving around in 3rd (no OD) and it seems fine. Back to OD, it drops out of gear at 35 mph, then total limp mode -25 mph max.

Still No Engine light! Now what? Input Sensor I guess but I hate just throwing parts at it in the dark. Cam Sensor? Transmission Range Sensor (TRS)?

You think it would be necessary to do a Quick Learn? Of could it be that the OD plate in the trans is done?

Any help/recommendations highly appreciated

I would need to know if you have input and output are showing rpm's with a scanner and what are the cvi's for the LR, OD, UD, and 2/4 clutches.

Clutch Volume Index -- Ok, what kind of scanner can get this info? Mine is fairly basic and I very much doubt it can do that. I take it you suspect damage to the gear clutches?

As I mentioned, I replaced the Output sensor already. What kind of scanner do I need to see if they are showing RPMs? The speedometer appears to work fine and showing rpms going up as expected.

Thank you!
