Vehicle: 2002 Dodge Caravan SE

When i go to spray the windshield washer fluid, no fluid comes out. The reservoir is full. I believe the fuse responsible for the washer is a 15A standard fuse. I look at it and it seems intact. The washer nozzle where the liquid ejects from dont appear clogged.

How do i trouble shoot this issue?

I found this thread and thought this would be the best place for me to chime in. I have had the same problem. I thought the motor/pump was done for, however, the other day I pushed the button on my 2006 Caravan and this time I still had no washer fluid, but instead my high-beam headlghts went on...???

Yesterday I tried again and this time, high beams came on, and when I went to try and turn them off, by pulling back on the turn signal/washer/wiper stick, the front washer began to work.

So, how did all this get backwards? I had tried 'resetting' the system by unplugging that fuse (I'm not a mechanic) that controls the whole system.

The washer motor should be in the bottom of the washer bottle (in front of the right front wheel).

One trouble shooting option would be to unplug the wiring to the washer motor and check for voltage at the connector when someone activiates the switch.

If you get voltage at the pump, you could check the motors resistance or with two pieces of wire, by-pass the vehicle wiring and tap off the battery to see if the pump works. Just be carefull you don't spark at the battery.

Or if you have a good wiring diagram, you could disconnect the wiring connector near the steering colum and carefully jumper cross the two connectors to by pass the wiperwasher switch or check the two wires on the switch side of the connector that you have continuity when the switch is depressed.

Just make sure you are comfortable working on wiring/electrical power. If not, have someone else do these simple checks to isolate where the problem is.

How crazy! I went out and tried testing for the same issue BUT unfortunately there is no high-beam / washer switch-a-roo happening for me.

When i activate the windshield washer there is NO SOUND except for the wiper blades moving. No liquid squirts out. The rear window pump / noise works 100% fine.

I've checked the 15A fuse labeled FT/RR Washer and it is fine.

 

you probably need a washer pump then.
Since u say wiper blades moves, that means the switch is working. So the probably is either broken wire (i doubt it), Bad IPM controller (small chance), or failed washer pump (VERY LIKELY). If you want to stick a test light into the washer pump connector to confirm power, it would be a good idea.

 

Is there an easy way to access the Windshield Washer Pump motor. The service manual states:

(1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative
cable.

(2) Remove the engine fresh air housing inside the
engine compartment (Refer to 9 - ENGINE/AIR
INTAKE SYSTEM/AIR CLEANER HOUSING -
REMOVAL).

(3) Disconnect the washer hose at the in-line con-
nector forward of the cowl grille so that the in-line
connector remains with the washer hose from the
fresh air plenum.

(4) Disconnect the washer hose from the hose clip
located on the front fender side shield.

(5) Remove the filler tube screw.

(6) Hoist and support vehicle on hoist or jack
stands.

(7) Remove the right front wheel and tire assembly
(Refer to 22 - TIRES/WHEELS - REMOVAL).

(8) Disconnect the left right front wheelhouse
splash shield and move aside (Refer to 23 - BODY/
EXTERIOR/WHEELHOUSE SPLASH SHIELD -
REMOVAL).

(9) Drain washer fluid from the reservoir and into
a suitable clean container. This can be done by dis-
connecting the windshield washer hose from the
front (outboard) washer pump and allowing the
washer fluid to drain into a container through a tem-
porary jumper hose connected to the front washer
pump.

(10) Disconnect the electrical body harness connec-
tors to the washer pump motors and the fluid level
sensor. Slide the red lock on the connector to the
release position, then, depress the black tab and pull
the connector off the pump or sensor.

(11) Remove the two reservoir mounting screws.

(12) Disconnect the reservoir from the body mount
by raising the reservoir upward slightly and then
down so that the reservoir filler neck and front
washer hose pull through the opening in the front
fender side shield.

(13) Remove pump from reservoir by pulling pump
upper retention tab away from reservoir cavity and
then lifting pump up from mounting grommet. Do
not damage reservoir/pump sealing surface or punc-
ture reservoir during removal.

(14) Remove pump grommet and discard.



Please tell me there are needless steps above for me to skip because geez how annoying at -10'C. If there's no easier way then i will proceed but was hoping to checlk / remove the pump in a couple steps.

I don't know for sure but you may want to look and see if you can leave the bottle installed and change the pump. Here's an article that covers what appears to be 3rd or 4th generation vans (96-07). As Steak59 said, check the voltage first.

When i press in the multifunction switch to activate the washer, the wipers do in fact turn but there is no fluid sprayed onto the windshield. I do not hear any sound from the washer motor, if there is supposed to be a sound.

 

I will definitely use that link and get back to you guys.
