Default 41TE service manual

Hi there. I have a 96 Grand Caravan SE with a tranny stuck in limp-in gear. No codes, bad battery. I have dropped the oil pan and pulled the filter. Just a few flecks of metal and a dark red transmission fluid. I plan on sealing the pan, topping up the ATF4 fluid, removing the return hose to run and empty the fluid in the torque converter leaving a new filter and all new fluid.

If that does not fix it I want to look at doing a rebuild at home since I have space, time and a strong desire not to give someone else 2K+ if I can do it equally as well.

There is a ODB2 reader (probably the OBDLink MX Scan Tool, http://www.scantool.net/scan-tools/p...bdlink-mx.html), New 3 ton jackstands and probably a better 3.5 ton jack from Costco in my future. But before I even start I want to get and review the Official service manual to eliminate possible damage and probable foul language later on.

Where can I find a service manual for a 96' dodge 604/41TE transmission?

Thank you all in advance.

Eric

Do you know of anyone in a dealership that would loan you a service manual?

I can start asking around. I guess they are quite pricey then?

I don't know about pricey. Its the matter, if the manuals are still around. Everybody is going paperless. I know I still have my service manuals from 1995 thru 2000 on the A604/41TE transmission. If you can't find what you are looking for, I can try to photo copy some pages.

Sorry to take so long to reply, I've been very busy. I am also very new to Silicone seals apparently.

Mt 1st attempt at RTV sealing the oil pan didn't work out. I missed the important marks with the bead, didn't wait long enough for the RTV to skin over and didn't let it cure overnight. I didn't start it so I only lost RTV.

Are there any tricks to setting the RTV to seal or was I just too impatient?

When I get a proper seal I plan to fill, and purge, via the return hose to get all the old ATF out.

If after a full fluid change, with no shavings or visible damage, it does not work should I assume that the solenoid is fouled?

Thanks,

Default Tranny seal

I use the filter kit from O'reilly's; it has an EPDM gasket that doesn't leak and uses NO RTV. Just make sure you don't over torque the bolts.
As for the manual I bought the ATSG book online for about $25 and successfully rebuilt my 41TE. DO a search and you will find lots of info.
