I have the exact same issue, also have a grand caravan from 02. Spent last night laying under it reproducing the clinking noise trying to figure out where it was coming from. It happens every time the wheels change direction (forward to reverse) or sometimes when you break suddenly. Couldn't figure it out so now im looking online.

My sound is a clicking, so probably different from jeepmans. Unattached the rack and pinion from the car, it's still in there but i'll get it out tomorrow. I think there is a crack or some sort of break somewhere between the inner lie rod and outer lie rod causing the noise every time the direction of rotation changes.

Have you check all the motor mounts and the 1 1/4 axle nuts?

checked all mounts and axle nuts it is getting worse i would say it is more like a shudder now when going into gear. almost like its going in out real fast do not know how else to describe it does it going into drive now as well i think it must be electrical but not sure. what about speed sensor could one read wrong and still not throw a code?

If output speed sensor problem, the transmission will go into limp mode and the speedometer won't work either. Because of the weight of the thick wire harness there can be a lot of pull on the output speed sensor wires. I lenghtened mine (2002) just in case.
Perhaps electrical connection at the solenoid pack should be checked.
