I bought a 2004 dodge grand caravan recently and didnt notice that the engine light and the air bag light wont come on when i first turn the key on. What is the cause for this? I had a mechanic tell me someone may have disabled this. Can any one tell me how to check this? I have replaced the bulbs (pc74) in the cluster and didnt fix it. I need these to work for the state inspect. and emissions.

Try setting a DTC code for the engine see if the light comes on. If it doesn't, Then I would have it looked at. It could be the cluster.

 

thanks for the reply. I had an parts store hook up a reader and found a p0406 reading which i believe is an egr valve problem. I replaced it, still nothing. can i test the pin connector to the cluster to see if im getting the correct signal to it? where can i find which pin is the engine light and air bag light? are there led lights on the circuit board that could have burnt out? Is there a trick in removing the connector from the cluster I cant seem to get it removed and i'm worried that i may break it.

 

found out why the engine light and air bag light were not working correctly. someone opened the instrument cluster and took out the lights on the board. had to replace the cluster and now to figure out why the air bag light won't go out
