On my '04 Town and country I have just noticed a whine from the transmission while in gear at idle. Place the trans in park or neutral and the whine disappears. It drives and shifts as normal.

Any ideas on what the problem might be and should I be doing some repairs? I do all my repairs but have never worked on an auto trans.

The van has 137k miles. I changed the filter and as much fluid as I could at 60k miles. At 90 and 120 miles I pumped out 3 to 4 qts and added fresh ATF+4.

Is the check engine light on? If its not, I would try to isolate the noise. Is it coming from the bellhousing or from inside the transmission?

No check engine light. I will try to isolate the noise this evening.

Thanks for your reply.

The whine is gone. I will change the filter and some of the oil as soon as I can.
