engine surging at idle
I have a '02 caravan se 3.3L. For the past week ive been battling this problem. I've changed the tps and the iac and replaced vac lines with massive cracks and still have the same problem. I can pull each vac line off 1 at a time and there is no change. Can someone give me some ideas please.
Having the same issue .. surges and feels like a miss but at 15-20mph it goes away and runs smooth down the road.. no loss of gas millage. it idols Like a miss fire. found a vacuum line broke on what looks like a Box under the battery compartment that go to the throttle line .No clue if its something to do with cruse control or not. I replaced that and got a egr code? would the EGR make a over all bad idol? Its coded on me a bunch and never did this.
There is some box on the left back side of the Manifold i unplg that and the surge seem to stop ..again don't know what that piece is called

A friend of our had a caravan just line ours. He listened to it and said his did the exact same thing. He replaced the coil pack ad the fuel filter and it ran right. He said to replace the fuel filer first then the coil pack if it still runs bad. He said if that doesn't solve the prob then it might be the fuel pump. I haven't had a chance to work on it cause of other thing that's been happening. I'm hoping to get the filter changed in the. Next couple of weeks. When I do I'll post the results.
Test the fuel pressure before you change the filter or pump. Sounds more like the EGR opening at idle or not closing completely. Test the minifold vacuum as well; that should tell you if it's fuel related or vacuum related.

Ok I'll check that first. What should the fuel pressure be at. I know there is a vac leak. It's a hair line crack on the vac canister. The van was in the shop for 5 weeks in '05 and the machanic said it can't be fixed but it won't cause any problems but the cel will always be on. I'm going to solve that prob this weekend. What should the vac pressure be. Thanks for the info. And how can you test the egr valve?
Fuel pressure should around 50 psi; the vacuum should be 18-20 or so and steady, not fluctuating rapidly. The vacuum measurement will help test the EGR, but actively you can apply vacuum to the diaphragm port and see the manifold vacuum drop and the engine RPM drop as well (engine going lean from the air incoming from EGR valve); engine may stall.
