pcv: stuck, don't want to break it
Hi everyone. I have 06 3.8 caravan, 68,000 miles
Wanted to check if pcv was stilling functioning correctly by pulling it out and seeing if it rattled.
Removed the hose. It was bit of struggle because clamp was a factor clamp, spring loaded.
Just couldn't get the pcv out. grabbed the chimney of the pcv for a better word then i can think of, and twisted and turned it and tried to pull up but wouldn't budge. sprayed silicone around the sides of it. still not help. i didn't want to bend and brake the cheap metal of the chimney by closing tightly on the chimney and pulling, but appeared to get enough pulling power that it should have come out.
So, any experience from anyone?
thanks

I have an '06 Caravan as well. I understand that these PCV valves thread into the valve cover in the rear. No amount of pulling will help - I think you need a socket or wrench. Not sure of the correct size. I have been shying away from the job myself because the valve covers are plastic and I don't want to mess them up.
Thanks for response. I have looked at the valve by using a mirror for a better look. I did turn it 360 degrees and checked to see if it was lifting out of its port. but it was moving upward. I didn't see any way to secure a socket around it. No room between housing and valve by which a socket could get in there.
I feel confident someone will chime in that has experienced its removal.
Thanks again for your response.

I vaguely recall reading something about it here or elsewhere; it may also have been that I saw a picture of a threaded PCV associated with my car.
I will have to check, as mentioned, I haven't tried replacing it yet because of what I read about it being threaded and possibly messing up the valve cover if it is stuck in there.

If you have plastic valve covers it is held in by the grommet, If you have steel valve covers it is threaded in. Put a bolt or similar round object in the top so you can grab it with vise grip pliers without crushing the top metal nipple part. My 2005 and 2007 3.3L engines both have the grommet style Pcv valves.

Not sure what to look for as far an a round object, but i will start looking and glad you told me that idea. i don't know what to get that could fit tight enough around the chimney of the pcv that would adhere very tightly without damaging it and yet be pulled up with channels or vice grip.
