I know the filter should be on the side of the block but three of us dont see it .I also know it will be small compared to the V8 GM that I'm used to . I now have a 3.6 liter with fresh oil but no filter change.

 

The oil filter is under the hood on the passenger side very close to the
large air cleaner ribbed hose near the antenna mast. It uses a 24mm socket to remove a black cap that unscrews. The filter will come out attached to the cap. Pull it off of the cap, attach the new filter to the cap and screw it in by hand, then snug it, no overtighten.

 

Thanks for the filter location.I was looking for a conventional spin on filter which is what the parts store gave me.
