Default 1998 dodge caravan, need help with cv axles

recently traded for a 1998 dodge caravan, had a new cv axle (driver side)but wasn't installed properly and "popped" out when they tried to pull it out of the garage. I towed it home and noticed when I tried to put it in any gear it would roll as if in neutral. Long story short, I took the cv axle out , removed the mounting plate on the trans side of the cv axle to see if it would go in further and "catch" as though in gear, pushed it too far I guess and cant get it back out.. any suggestions on how to get the cv axle back out of the trans so I can mount it properly? any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to DF

You need a huge pry bar and get behind the inner cv joint and give it a quick jerk out of the transmission.

thats what I was hoping to hear. do you think theres a chance that axle could have been shoved past the splines and would have to be re-aligned before pulling back through?

Please verify that the axle is correct for the vehicle and transmission. I used to manage a parts store and had a wonderful experience with a guy that couldn't get axles to work in his "4 cyl Caravan with a 3 spd" that turned out to be a GRAND Caravan with 4 spd. Cost my store money and him A LOT of time.
