96 Caravan 3.3L Wont Stay Running
Hello everyone and thank in advance for your help.
1996 Dodge Grand Caravan, 3.3L ~150k miles.
The van belongs to my mother-in-law, who lives about 5 hours away from me. My sister-in-law takes care of her, and does all the driving.
This problem happened earlier this summer. I was there in June and checked the codes - got the P0505 code for the IAC. I replaced it. I guess the code came back within a day or so of me leaving (same P0505).
My sister-in-law was driving the car anyway, and it suddenly died at a stop light. She said it wouldn't stay running for any amount of time, but was able to nurse it home by re-starting it everytime it died, and barely keeping it running (very roughly). It's been sitting ever since, as she's afraid to drive it.
I know how hard it is to diagnose based on someone else's description! But here's what I know -
The IAC is new.
The ECU was replaced last November by reman one. I believe it's still under warranty.
I'm heading over there for the weekend, and would like to fix the van. I'm going to warranty trade the ECU, and hope that fixes it. However, on the chance that doesn't resolve the issue, I was going to (based on my research at this forum):
Check for a short in the wiring under the engine near the cross-member (any helpful clues as to where to look in particular?).
Check the fuel pressure (but I'm not sure why code P0505 would come up if that was the issue).
With a new IAC, what could cause that code to return within 48 hours? Any idea as to what else it could be, or where I should look?
Could this be the Cam Sensor that I've frequently read about?
Again, thanks in advance!
Jared

Thats because the flex plate has little window that line up to the crank sensor and breaks the magnetic field. If the windows don't line up at the correct time, the engine start and run badly or has a hard time stay running.
