I just bought a DGC-Crew and want to remove the 3rd row seating since I don't need them. I cannot find any info like instructions, pictures, tools needed, etc.
why not just fold them into the floor as intended? I am sure there can't be too much involved in removing them but to me it would make more sense to fold them away into the floor and have a nice flat surface.
JShrigley: Two reasons: Lose the weight and gain storage space. A lid will still give me a flat surface. FYI Dodge actually makes plastic storage bins that fit this space.
It's pretty easy. I have done it, but I'm out of town and can't look at it to do a write up for you. Essentially, there's are bolts at the base of the back of the seats holding them in place. I unscrewed them, disconnected the wiring harness, and pulled them out. The legs at the front are not bolted down, so that they can stow. You will find that there are bolts on the top edge (directly under the set....on top of the floor) and under the carpet in the stow area. You can only access one set of bolts at a time, then you need to move the seat to a different orientation to grt the others.
I hope that was clear. If you just get in there and look at it, you'll see what needs to be done. It doesn't take long to do it once you know what to do.
Thanks! Sounds straightforward. Looks straight forward though a tad cumbersome. Except for the wiring harness. Didn't realize it was connected to seats (why?) but assumed caution was called for against crushing the harness while removing.
Did you need any special tools such as the clamp recommended to remove the 2nd row seats?
All you need is a set of sockets to remove them. Once it is unbolted, remove harness and tuck it into the carpet before reinstalling the clips that hold the carpet in place. The most cumbersome part is pulling out the larger of the 2 seats. It is somewhat heavy and bulky to move around. Our harness was for the electric stow-n-go feature for that set of seats. If you don't have the motorized stow-n-go, then I don't know what the harness is for (or even if you have it). Either way, don't crush the harness.
When the 3rd row is up in place (so that people could sit on them), you just have to go behind the seats, and you will see where they are anchored to the van's floor.
Each of the two seats have two big hinges on their back, that are bolted on the floor. That is the pivot point, right ?
In the front of the seat, there is only a leg sets to locks in the hooks.
So all you have to do, is take a ratchet and unscrew those big bolts.
The only thing, is that there is a plastic molding that is only cosmetic, to hide a bit those screw from the view. That plastic molding is about 4 inch wide and 4 feet long. It spans from the left side to the right side of the van. Again, you only have to unscrew 4 little retainer to be able to remove that plastic molding.
Those two seats probably weghts a bit, but nothing compared to the 2nd row of stow n go: these are really beefy and heavy.
