Stop lights don't work as of today?
Hi, A guy yelled over to me today that neither stop light is working on my Dodge grand caravan,1996, 3.3L. My bulbs are good, back up lights work, flashers OK, right and left turn OK. I see a wire going into the side of brake reservoir. Is that where the problem is? I'm lost on anything newer than 1967 The last time I worked on a brake light switch was when I installed it on my 1930, 427 Corvette powered model A about 15 years ago. You know, the easy ones with a button on top of the brake lever.
Thanks in advance for any help you could give me, Terry

The beauty of the brake light circuit on a 96 - fuse, pedal switch, wire, light bulbs and that's it. Later model years become science projects. Check the 20 amp fuse in the PDC. Put your ear to the pedal switch and listen for a distinct click when pressing the pedal and another when releasing. No click or just one - replace the switch. Course you could always check it with a meter.
Got a picture of that Model A? Many will drool.

Looking at my 96GC you'll see the switch mounted on a bracket directly next to and left of the brake lever towards the top of the lever. If you want to try the "listen for the click trick" remove the switch. I tried it with it installed and couldn't tell the difference between it's noise and the return spring noise.
BTW - That wire at the brake master cylinder (reservoir) is for the fluid level sensor in the cylinder. Fluid gets low, brake warning light comes on.
