Default timing belt installation question

Hello,

I am installing a timing belt on a 2000 Caravan with a 2.4L. I am about to go back together when I read something. The tensioner broke apart and the belt came of so when I realigned the marks on the cam I did so with no belt on individually each needing only 1/2 to 3/4 turn. I read that this should not be done as it may cause serious engine damage. My question is would that damage of already occurred or would it result from continuing to finish the job and not removing the valve cover and doing the procedure for when my situation occurs? When I turned them both when somewhat smoothly.

Thanks for the time and energy, ACanna

If you have duel over head cams. They don't hit the piston, unless you are 70 mph. I do had the picture on how the timing belt should look when the timing has been set up. If you want the picture, send me your email.
