09 Caravan shifter question
I bought a used 09 Caravan SE without an owners manual. I am assuming this is a 4 speed transaxel on mine. I notice there are 2 high gears. A "D" with a circle around it and a "4" with a circle around it. While driving and shifting from one to the other I see no difference in engine RPM...
Is one of those used to lockout the overdrive? I ask this because I may be doing some light short range towing an don't want to be in overdrive.

OK I read the transmission section throughly. Chrysler doesn't even mention the "4" gear that I see on my dash! They say while in drive you move the shifter left to go from "D" to "3". OK That works. Also you can hit the shifter again to drop down to "2", if you need to. When you move the shifter the other direction you come up through the gears. However, instead of going from "3" back into "D", you go into "4"!
What is that "4" thing? And why does it only show when you are moving the shifter to the right?

All I really want to know is what is that "4" gear all about?

I own a 2009 Caravan with 4-speed tranny.
Mine does the same thing; has gears 1, 2, 3, 4, and D
The way I understand it is your tranny will shift thru all 4 gears when you are in 4 or D.
Why? I have no idea, I just live with it.
Also, be careful with your shifter. I've had mine replaced twice.
1. I couldn't use the Auto-Stick feature (it wouldn't manually shift gears)
2. The shifter broke inside, and I could only use N and D. I had no Reverse or Park.
Both times, Dodge Mechanics told me to GENTLY shift the gears and not to slam the shifter down into Drive, or slam it up into Park.
