How do you remove the front wiper arms? It looks like a plastic cap over the shaft end. I'd rather not experiment prying and such since it's super cold outside and parts can break. Do I need a puller or will the arm come off after a hidden nut or whatever is removed?

I bought a 2008 grand caravan and the passenger wiper arm is out of phase a bit. It sits too high on the windshield in the park position and interferes with the passenger blade. I'm hoping it can be rotated counterclockwise one spline or so.

PS: I already checked and the assembly is not loose or worn. The blades are the correct size also.

1. Open the hood.
2. Carefully pry the plastic nut cap off of the pivot end of the wiper arm .
3. Remove the nut that secures the wiper arm to the wiper pivot shaft.
4. Close the hood.
5. Lift the front wiper arm to its over-center position to hold the wiper blade off of the glass and relieve the spring tension on the wiper arm to pivot shaft connection.
6. Use a slight rocking action to disengage the front wiper arm pivot end from the pivot shaft and remove the wiper arm.

CAUTION: The use of a battery terminal puller when removing the front wiper arm is NOT recommended except as a last resort, as this may damage the front wiper arm.




7. If the rocking action failed to free the wiper arm from the pivot shaft, lower the wiper blade back onto the glass , then open the hood.
8. Use a suitable battery terminal puller to disengage the wiper arm from the pivot shaft .
9. Remove the wiper arm pivot end from the pivot shaft.

 

When you adjust your wipers they should be set to the alignment marks on the windshield. Here are two pictures showing the marks.



NOTE: I moved the wiper down in the "driver side" picture so the alignment mark would be visible. The wiper should be right on the mark.

Awesome, thanks!! Sorry for stupid questions but my factory service manuals are ordered and in the mail.

As general info, the splines are only on the shaft. The wiper arm hole is made of aluminum and has no splines. the torque of the nut causes the shaft to bite into the aluminum to prevent slippage.
