Question Why is radiator not a cross flow design 97 GC 3.8L

I just pulled the radiator to diagnose and over heat problem. I noticed that both hose connections are on the passenger side. This makes it so that most flow will go thru the tank on that side not forced thru the radiator. anyone know why? Or is there something wrong with my radiator?

The std radiator has a baffle - but sometimes it breaks - like in this picture and you will chase all other parts and have people tell you that you blew a head gasket when in fact its just a bad radiator and bad design. I went with HD version which has a normal cross flow and longer lower hose. This was 2nd radiator i croaked. I hope my upgrade will be my last .
