How do I determine if the stereo in my 2008 Grand Caravan SE is an amplified unit? I want to install an aftermarket stereo head unit and I keep getting the question asking if the OEM stereo is amplified. Seems it matters in determining which wiring harness is required to install the new unit.

 

Sometimes a head unit is just a pre-amp as in my Maxima and the amp in my case is mounted on the rear parcel shelf. So my head unit is not an amp. The best thing for you to do is ask your dealer if it is or not on that van. If you just try to plug & play an aftermarket head unit and find out that you have an amp somewhere else on that van you will have issues for sure... so be safe and give the dealer a call and verify if this is the case? If your van has a powered head unit and it runs on a normal 4 Ohm
load you should be all set. Ask alot of questions both at the dealer and the shop where you will get the new unit.

Your radio is a RES unit according to your vin. The amp is part of the radio unit. You have a am/fm cd and mp3 player.
