2012 Grand Caravan Crew - smelly windows!!
I have a 2012 Grand Caravan Crew. Got it at the end of October 2012. Love the van, but there is a moldy, musty odour coming from the windows. I think it's the window seals. When you roll the windows down, the smell enters the cabin. Other than that, there is no smell in the vehicle.
I had the same issue with my 2010 GCV. After several dealer trips to clean, disinfect, deodorize and replace the window seals, the smell would return every time. Since it is the first vehicle I have ever had with this problem, I thought we were done with it. I have a 2010 Charger that we wash the same way, park in the same places, etc. and have had no issues, and any of the vehicles I have ever owned over the years have never had this problem.
After consulting with the dealer and with Chrysler Canada, I have been told that because the seals were replaced in the old van with no permanent fix that they cannot offer me a viable repair on the 2012. Needless to say, I find that answer completely unacceptable. I love the van, but can't put up with this (my wife loves to drive with the windows down whenever possible, but cannot tolerate the smell).
Is there anyone else who has had this issue, and if so, what did you do to fix it? Or.....any advice on how to deal with the manufacturer? I don't want to get rid of the van, but if the problem cannot be permanently fixed, I don't want the vehicle anymore. I have looked into arbitration, but would like to keep this as a last resort.

They haven't even really looked at the new one. They say that based on what they did with the 2010 I had, there is almost no point. The 2010 was verified as having clear drains in the doors. The dealer had pulled the door panels, all the carpets in the van, even had it on the hoist checking all the drains. No issue was found. No smell from the air vents, no smell from the carpets.....only from the windows.
Stupid thing is - the interior still has a bit of that "new car smell" to it every once in a while.....
