Default warning, sliding doors, poor manufacturing

To all who want to purchase a dodge grnd caravan, or owners of. I found a defect in the sliding doors and have been trying to get it fixed on warranty. If you look at both left and right rear fenders the sliding door scratches the fenders just above the wheel well. I have bee complaining to Dodge for over a year and am still waiting for them to do something about it. If you already own one check the two fenders and make a warranty request to fix before its too late. My fenders are used to the metal rust will set in if nothing is done.

It almost looks as if another car side swiped your van. Most people dont notice it. I've checked in a walmart parking lot other vans and most due the exact same thing. Complain cause nothing will be done if you dont. We buy new vehicles for them to look new. Best of luck

Hmm. Rarely mentioned on forums. On the 6 forums I've been cruising for years I've read of it 3 or 4 times. Usually it's just an adjustment that fixes it. What's your model year?

My van is 5 yrs old with 95K mi with dual power side doors. Rear seats are used daily by kids. No fender rubbing marks from side doors whatsoever. Not doubting you have this issue, but I have never heard of this problem and have yet to see a van of this type with the damage you describe.

PS: I don't notice it because I don't have the issue. I'm not in denial or blind lol.

There is a technical service bulletin for this issue on the 2008 thru 2012 vans.

TSB NUMBER: 23-012-12 REV. A
DATE: October 04, 2012

SUBJECT:
Sliding Door Trim Contacting Vehicle Rear Quarter

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing an additional door panel retention point to prevent the door panel from bowing and contacting the body when the sliding door is opened.

MODELS:
2008 - 2012 (RT) Dodge Caravan
2008 - 2012 (RT) Chrysler Town and Country

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built prior to February 11, 2012

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a door trim panel contacting the quarter panel on either side when opening either of the sliding doors. In some instances interior door panel to quarter panel contact has been noted on both left and right sides of the vehicle. Design clearances of the interior door panel are aggravated by heat which causes the door panel to relax and bow, which may contact the rear quarter panel.
If you are out of warranty you may want to check out this link: https://www.argent-label.com/product/rt-sliding-door-repair-kit. They sell a kit to add a retention point, here is a link to their installation instructions.

It would seem to me that the dealer should be able to handle this simple TSB request. They handle thousands of them each year like every other mfr.

If this request for the repair was documented on a service order prior to your warranty expiration, you are good to go. It will likely be covered if a dispute is filed by YOU thru Dodge with evidence of your prior service order request. They have a toll-free 800# for quick action on such claims, just like every other mfr. Refer to your Owner's Manual in the glovebox.

Verbally complaining (over a 12 month period) to an incompetent service manager (without insisting upon a service order document) is definitely a recipe for no repair and warranty expiration. In this case, you will need to buy the $8 kit above and install it. Good luck!

Default dodge grand caravan sliding door prob

I have contacted, dodge canada and am getting little response from them. They have changed the inside panel, as you suggested for both doors, and some sort of bushings in the door mechanism. it still is not doin anything. my rear quarter panels are heavily worn down by door. I appreciate all your insite guys but everything suggested has been done. The verbal complaint has brought me to the point where they have now assigned engineers to verify the issue. Over a year now. What is making me angry is that I bought new and I feel like I bought a used van... by the time they actually fix it its going to be at junk yard. I think next time I'll support Japan and buy a Toyota.
