[5th Gen : 08+]: A/C temperature
Good day,
I found something weird today..
I have a GC 2008 SE, with A/C only in the front.
The temperature doesnt seem to be too cold.. is that normal for a 2008 car? Do I have to have it "refill" ?
Also, I found that on the left side (the one next to the window, and the one on the left side of the central "dash"), the temperature is "colder" (when AC is on) then the one on the right...
isn't it normal?
Thanks
Frank

An A/C system should normally not need to be recharged unless there is a leak in the system, or the system was deliberately discharged, for example to replace a component like the compressor. My '08 SE with rear A/C still blows pretty darn cold after 105,000 miles and has never been serviced *knocks on wood*
Though it's entirely possible that you are leaking refrigerant somewhere, your issue sounds more like a blend door problem. I'm not sure if there is a trick to resetting the blend doors on the '08 without an expensive scan tool, maybe someone else on here knows. You should check for a possible blend door issue first, as diagnosing a refrigerant leak or replacing A/C lines or components that refrigerant passes through should only be done by a shop with proper equipment.

Hi,
what is the best way to find those "blend door" ? Is there a pattern somewhere to guide me? I'm used a lot on VW as that what I had before
but GC is "new" to me
Do i will find all of those if I remove the parts around the radio to get behind ?

just hit the buttons see if the air goes where it should. I forget the value but I sure someone pitch in. it has to run for a while, caint have outside air introduced and at high blowers the air temp should be a certain temperature. I think 55f or little colder but don't remember the value. also mine does not have it but I would check if yours does. pull down the glove compartment completely and see if you have a filter in there.
Do you have dual zone AC? The rear lines are prone to leak at the rear expansion valve gaskets. A slow leak will reduce the cooling capacity, until eventually, it won't cool at all. Our '08 T&C has exactly this problem, didn't get around to fixing it yet.
I wouldn't take things apart to get at the blend doors just yet. I agree with DodgeCaravan2010SXT - cycle through the settings first (head only, head/feet, feet only, etc) to see if anything changes, and also see what happens when you set the temperature ***** to full hot then back to full cold. Make sure you do this with the engine warm. And make sure your A/C condenser/radiator fan works. If they are still blowing different temperatures try disconnecting the battery negative terminal for at least 30 minutes then reconnecting.
There was a recalled ac hose at the front of the compressor. It's the U-shaped one beside the power steering hose, They were VERY bad about leaking.

did they fix this on the 2010? hope by then they did.
There was at Customer Satisfaction Notification, K04 A/C Discharge Hose, that applied to 2008 thru 2010 vans built thru August 07, 2009. It only applied for vans with the 3.3L or 3.8L engine, so you should be safe.
I had that hose replaced twice, the first time was under warranty, the second time was after the warranty expired. I was reimbursed for the second repair when I discovered that they didn't use the updated part number for the first repair.
