hello everyone i have a 2000 dodge caravan it wont shift out of gear. the shifter is on the steering column.the shifter moves through all the gears,and the lights all illuminate and move through the gears, but the gears don't engage the van just stays in park does anybody know how i can fix it ?

Try removing the shifter cable at the transmission. With some one in the vehicle and set the park brake and have someone standing on the brake pedal. With engine running, move the lever at the transmission, does the transmission go into reverse and drive? If it does, then the problem is either the cable or the shifter lever assy.
