Thank you for the replies, all. I had the oil changed today at my Dodge dealership, and the window decal says I should change it again in 5,000 miles.

 

 

manufacturers, as a selling point, want their vehicles to be as maintenance free as possible. the life of a vehicle to them is when the warranty expires.

What I would do is....If you always trade in before powertrain expires...follow the olm.

if you keep your vehicle well past powertrain warranty; severe service interval is 6000. If you tow, idle excessively, use flex fuel, drive in hot climates...change at 6000
