Dodge CaravanThe Dodge Caravan is the best selling mini van from Dodge. How many Dodge Caravan owners here at DodgeForum.com would agree? Discuss it now!
My new Grand Caravan has the NAV430 unit with one drop down screen in the back. I want to add another universal screen on a goose neck mount. I've contacted several custom audio/video shops and they all say this is "too custom" for them. Really? I can't believe a mod like this would be considered too much for a high end audio shop. 10 years ago I did a similar mod on my Gen 4 GC, but the guy who did it is no longer in business. I've checked the wiring harness that feeds the video screen and I'm stumped as how to identify which wires are the video signal. It is a very big harness with a lot of wires. Maybe the signal in the new van is digital and my Gen 4 van it was analog? Does anyone have any contacts of a shop that can hep me out? Thanks.
Well I had no luck with a stereo shop adding a screen so I tore into it today and figured it out. I fabbed up a test wire and powered up my additional screen. I then popped in a DVD to send the signal down the wires. Through trial and error I found the video signal and was able to tie into it and install the front seat screen. The screen looks big in the pic but it is only 9 inch. It plays just like the back seat screen. When in drive the dash screen goes dark but my new screen does not. A dozen shops I contacted said it could not be done. The nice thing about the system is the passengers can watch DVDs with headphones, but the driver can still listen to the radio.
