Unhappy Turns over won't start

Wife driving along and it stopped running. Fuel pump sounded bad so replaced it. Turned over won't fire.
Took off air intake and shot some fuel in... wouldn't start...
checked spark plugs and they were old so I replaced. Turn over won't fire.
Sounded like it was not firing at all... Took wire off one plug, turned over, and didn't see spark....
tested wires with ohm metre.. was fine...
today I put gas pedal to the floor and it was actually turning over and firing... seen smoke from exaust but still isn't starting

NOW WHAT?
THANKS ALL FOR YOUR HELP !!!!

Default Wow

All these dodge people I thought I would have had some ideas by now. I turned it over so many times trying to start it that the starter went. Changed the starter. I had my brother turn it over and I was holding screwdriver in one of the wires and after turning over for a second or two it sparked. Thought it might be a bad new fuel pump and took the line off by engine. Turned key on and fuel pissed out. So there is fuel. There is spark but it is not starting.

thanks for the help everyone

Default Makes you mad

I have a 1992 Power Ram LE with the 5.2 magnum. I had a problem with it acting about the same way yours is and it turned out to be the crank shaft sensor. Wire in the plug was loose. It worth checking. I replaced all kind of parts and that loose wire is all it was.

if he has spark the crank sensor is working
do a compression check
post the model year and engine size.

some times mine would crank but when you cut it off it may be a week or more sometime before it cranked up again. If he has spark and it’s not cranking up he has a problem.

agreed he has a problem but its not the crank sensor if he has spark. without crank sensor input the module has no timing reference when to open the coil.

if you have fuel pressure and spark...the next step is a compression test.

Default Low compression

Checked compression. The firewall three are

45. 30. 50

120. 130. 125

is the other side.

crack in head? Hard to see on firewall. What would you all check next? the price of a used engine? 😄

thanks all

you got time or money?
option 1- do a leakdown test to check to see if the leak is into the coolant, exhaust or intake or crankcase. maybe blown head gasket...you could pull the head and inspect.
option2 - price out a used engine vs head gasket or cylinder head repair
option3- if the van is old and tired and book value is less then the repair...shop for a newer vehicle

how do you feel about it...sometimes old stuff isn't worth the time and effort. if you feel like taking on a project go for it.
