dad always said it’s easy to fix, once you find out the problem. 😄
I think his other saying goes with this.
“The difficult we fix, the impossible takes a little longer.” 😄
My father’s side of the family has always adhered to “Murphy’s Laws”

1) Nothing is as easy as it looks.
2) Everything takes longer than you think.
3) If anything can go wrong, it will.

I always wondered why we didn’t just find this “Murphy” and break his legs for enacting these laws to begin with.

One other thing - if the timing marks on the phasers line up, you can count the number of pins in the chain between the triangles marked on the phasers - there should be 12 pins between them on each bank.

#1 & #3 are triangle marks

Default One cover off

Looks burnt to me. This is the even side. Take other cover off soon. Harder to get at.

Any further findings or updates?

The “burnt” appearance is relatively normal. There’s some carbon build up which could be due to infrequent oil changes or short trip driving, but the cam lobes are clean and don’t appear to be scored.

Front of engine to back. On firewall

Back corner.
What his this on back corner? Is this what is still holding from coming off.

I finally felt good enough to do some work on it. Took all wires and hoses off all around. Loosened all the bolts. Yet it won’t come off. Seems the back corner of engine against the firewall. Is there something I can’t see that is holding it? Well there is but what is it ? Thanks people !!

That’s the PCV valve. The service procedure does state to remove it in order to remove the valve cover - I’ve never had one off so I can’t say exactly why. It looks like it’s bolted to the valve cover only, so maybe it’s fitted into something underneath that prevents the cover from coming off with it installed.

The reason you need to remove the PVC valve in order to take the valve cover off is that it's attached to the camshaft. I got mine replace and I watch the mechanic while he was doing it he showed me that camshaft is made different than the others it has a stem on the end that the PVC valve slide onto.

Default Covers off

Firewall side off finally

Fw

Front

Where PCV connects.
I have to line up the timing marks like you said. I will do that later on today or this evening when my son gets home. Get him to touch/turn it over until they’re close and then I will wrench it the rest of the way. The front and the back both look the same right now the way the marks are sitting. But we’ll see when it’s in that same position as the picture you sent. Thanks again
