Default Oil Pan Gasket or RTV ??

I am replacing my lower Oil Pan on my 2013 Grand Caravan R/T (the drain plug is completely stripped).

I am having trouble determining whether a gasket is necessary or if it is recommended to use RTV.

I have seen conflicting information; and you can buy gaskets from Rock Auto / Amazon; just not sure if you are supposed to per OEM specs.

Anyone actually replace one?

I've done it both ways... RTV and gasket.... I much prefer the gasket and I haven't had a leak using one.

Gasket works fine - just DON'T get the rubber gasket ......get the "paper" one from Felpro ....i say "paper" ...its thicker paper /fiber material - rigid , can't bend it ....comes in a bug square cardboard backed package - on Amazon is like 20$

same for transmission pan gaskets - never get the "set" of transmission filter and rubber gasket -- rubber slips away when oil gets on it and starts leaking !!!!

ONY paper gaskets !!!! :-)
