Default Transaxle/CV boot?

I have a 2010 Grand Caravan SXT and there is a noise coming from the front left. The best way to describe the noise is it sounds like something rubbing against something else that is ribbed or has ridges. I highly suspect it's the transaxle or CV boot gone bad and has nothing to do with the transmission. While driving, the sound increases as the speed increases but when I shift to neutral the sound remains constant with the speed, NOT RPM...while in neutral I rev the engine and it doesn't change the sound. I have removed the wheel to inspect for anything rubbing or damage and found none. Is my suspicion correct?

So the sound you are hearing doesn't change even if you are stopped and you are rising the RPM. If you are stopped and not rolling, I think you may have a bearing in the transmission going bad. If you don't hear any sounds when stopped. You either have a bad hub bearing, loose axle nut or the loose pinch bolt for the lower ball joint.

I had my brother ride along with me, he is an accomplished mechanic. He says it's a bad wheel hub bearing and explained why. Thank you for your reply though...the noise would get louder as the speed increased, but when I put the transmission in neutral at speed the noise remained constant. It had nothing to do with RPM and would slowly decrease as the vehicle slowed. I have a new hub ordered and will be replacing it this week.
