Default 2001 Grand Caravan Sport Bad Resistor Block

My heater stopped on all settings except HIGH. Reviewing the other threads suggested the the resistor block was bad and right they were! New one was available only from dealer ($25).
Here are some pictures showing how easy it is to change (just beind the glove box).

Question: Is the diode-like element inside actually a normally OPEN fuse the blows closed to prevent overheating of the block when the blower motor is hung up?

Ditto the great pics. I don't know about the diode, but it's nice to see Chrysler improved the Resistor Block Design and placement inside the vehicle. On my '96, the coils are bare (no holed cover) and the thing is mounted under the hood in the firewall where it can get wet and corrode.

its actualy a resistor, and yes it will blow when it gets to hot (very common problem ), easy way to check it is to ohm check across the resistor.
NOTE: high speed mode does NOT through the "block" therefor it's the only mode that works. allother mode has to go trought it to regulate blower speed.

Should be a thermal fuse...if you look real careful at the stampings on it, it should give you a temperature degree value in C. Thermal fuse like this is closed and opens due to high temp.

FIrst post for me here. Great pics - will get a new one for myself as well.

But...where is the rear resistor block? And why did they both blow at the same time?

I replaced mine and it worked for about a month then blew again. What would be causing it to blow? A bad motor?

when they burn out fast like that it is usually a motor problem and I've seen these motor problems usually being caused by moisture in the blower housing. If you pull the motor and find moisture problems, you need to make sure the drain tubes from the upper cowling are clean. Sometimes these tubes block and cause water to come in the fresh air intake. gl
