Default Trip reset button works great for me!~

My 2001 T&C has alternator pulley clutch problems and has been slipping - allowing my battery to run down - until the starter solinoid only clicks. At this point my speedo quit and was well below 0mph. I followed the idea of the trip button holddown gauge reset, (after recharging the barrery) and all is well once again!

I drove around for awhile to make sure it's working and everything is great!
Worked for me too, thanks a lot!!!

Default didn't work for me

tried holding the Trip button for at least 10 seconds, with the key removed, or with the key inserted OFF, inserted ON, no results...

My bacon has been saved!!!! Talk about an easy fix. I just used this solution on my 2001 GC speedo which quit after replacing my battery and alternator. Bad part was that I was on my way to Canada for a week. Used my GPS for speed, but dreaded taking it back to the shop again for the 3rd time this month. (Just had the intake gaskets replaced, the rear coolant feed lines replaced, and the AC condenser changed to the tune of about $1200.) Thought I'd search a bit here and voila! My hats off to the participants of this forum. Once again, a savior.

The speedometer wasn't working on the way to church and now my wife just reminded me about it again tonight. So I checked out some other sites and noticed people were having problems with the spedo due to the battery and battery acid leaking. So I checked mine right away. I replaced the battery and then checked the spedo, still same problem. The needle was below the little pin and would not go.... so I started looking at the dash and how to take it apart. Well, fortunatley, not that hard! I pushed the trip button and held it for about 10 seconds, don't know whyI did it, but I did. Soooo, don't tear your dash apart or drill holes! Just replace the battery, make sure to clean the connectors really well as it sounds like these Caravans have an issue with a lot of corrosion on the connectors. That was definitely the case with mine. Cleaned them well, put in WalMart's top of the line battery and then did the reset as explained above. All is well.
thanks a lot!!!!!!!!! it worked to perfection and saved me a lot of trouble and possibly some money. shudder to think how much money some people spend to get this fixed. i'd be curious to see how much the dodge dealer would charge to fix the problem.

it may not work 100% of the time, but i sure worked in my case. thanks a ton again.

Same here. Also tried turning key from off to on 3 times to check codes, and the only thing that displayed was donE. I have a 2002 Grand caravan.

My speedometer was working fine. However, I had my AC evaporator replaced and now the speedometer is not working. I did the trip reset but it still did not move. There was only one connector behind the instrument cluster so I don't think I left any wires unplugged. Is there a separate connector specially for the speedometer? I have a 2001 Grand Caravan Sport.

Welcome to DF
The connector behind the cluster could be unplug or not snap to lock.

This is exactly what was wrong with it. Even though the plug was in, it was not locked. This explains why I was able to read all the other controls except the speedometer. Thank you very much for your fast and accurate reply!!
