Default Alternator recall

I got a recall notice the other day for the possibility of diode failure in the alternator potentially causing numerous bad things up to and including smoke, fire and crashing resulting in personal injury and death.

Unfortunately parts are not available at this time to make the covered repairs so...happy motoring!

My question to all you experienced Challenger owners: Would it be to my advantage to buy a new alternator, replace it myself and avoid imminent doom or wait for the caring folks at FCA to save me?

GO!

That is the obvious answer, my real concern is will an aftermarket replacement address this issue so it doesn't reoccur and is it safe to continue driving the car?

Does the recall notice state to stop driving the car?

No it does not, I guess I'll take my chances. Thanks for all this insightful information.

Happy motoring. No need to make mountains out of mole hills.

I don't think it's a mole hill, I was hoping for helpful advice from knowledgeable owners. Guess I'm not at the right site.

I'd replace it and keep you reciept and then have Mopar reimburse you for it.
