Possibly buying. Looking for advice.
Been toying with the idea of buying a power wagon for over a year. I've decided to buy a challenger 392 with a shaker, maybe. Just looking for pros. And cons on the challengers. I've only ever had dodge pickups. I wouldn't mind a 5.7, but if I'm gonna get one I want a 392 with a 6 speed manual. No autojunk. Still on the fence about a hellcat. So for right now a 392 with a shaker. Are they suceptable to the "hemi tick? I got a 5.7 in my 2500 ram given its an 05 without mds so it doesn't suffer from the hemi tick. What about manifold bolts? The trucks are notorious for them breaking. Is the irs a weak point in the drivetrain? Anything I'm missing please fill me in. Anything good or bad I'm all ears.
ALL 2003+ hemis are susceptible to the hemi tick. MDS has nothing to do with it. If you're getting a 392 Challenger the whole car is built to handle it. 392 shaker is a Scat R/T. If you don't like stiff suspension, don't get a Scat; they don't get the 3 mode adaptive suspension. Challengers also have horrible blind spots. The only real weak point (and it isn't really) is that the Scat Shaker you find may only have the 4 piston Brembos up front vs the 6 pistons. Not a huge deal, the 6 pots were originally developed to counter the extra 200+hp of the Hellcat. If you carry more than one passenger at any given time for any length of time the two doors gets old quickly.
Thanks for the reply magnoom. There are a lot of theories on the hemi tick. Just seems the mds hemis are more suceptable.... or there are just more of them than the non mds. Heard it was caused from poor oiling in the low rpm range. Failure to change oil at proper time. Over reving. Poor valve train geometry. Doesn't really seem to be a real known cause. Every case is different. I only really plan on a cam change with long tube headers, full exhaust, and a dyno tune. If I decide this route. My dream truck the srt10 1500 is also on the table. I'm partial to trucks over cars. But something about a plum crazy 392 challenger. No radical cam, I don't want to upgrade everything. I might just go with an exhaust and dyno tune if it's snappy out of the gate. It's gonna be a weekend car for groceries, and travel so I'm not racking up miles on my 2500. But something to have a little fun in also. No kids, just a GF and 2 dogs. No kids in the future plans.

if my GF gets pregnant, it won't be mine, and ill be single again, lol. I suppose there is always that .01 percent chance. But there will be a DNA test done, I was told I couldn't have kids. There is always that chance.
