Default Looking for advice before buying

Hi. I'm usually on the Ram board, butmy wife and I are looking at buying a Charger and would like some help with some questions. We found a Charger R/T fully loaded with Nav and DVD and just under 12k miles. Dealer is asking $27,300. I have just a couple of questions. Is there anything in particular we should check, or any common problems on these cars? What is the real gas mileage I can expect from this car (5.7L Hemi). We are considering tradingour 03 Yukon that gets on average 16 mpg (12 with flex fuel) city/hwy driving intraffic. How would the Charger compare? We really like the one we tested and saw it getting about 23mpg, but that was a test drive and we are hoping for real worlsd answers.

Thanks for taking time to read this and reply.

Jeff

$27,300 should buy a new one. No way would I spend that on one with 15,000 miles on it. I'm going in about 2 hours to try and buy the one I've been watching at the dealership for a few months now. It doesn't have the dvd or nav or sun roof but it has everything else. They already said they would sell it for $25,000 but now that it has been there for a while and hoping they have some rebates for memorial day I'm gonna try to do better.

I went back and tried to buy the same one they had a few months ago. I figured if they have a $3500 rebate on them now and I know what they were willing to sell them for 2 months ago when there was no rebate then we should be able to come to an agreement. I told him I would give them the $25000 they offered to sell it for if they would cover the sales tax. The bastard tried to offer me $3,000 for my wifes Town and Country that according to blue book is worth every bit of $7,000 as a trade or $5,300 according to black book. Any way needless to say I gave them my number and told them to call when they wanted to sell a car.

Bigfoot,

I have the Daytona model of the Charger R/T. The moderator of this areain the forum, Dave, has thesame car you are looking at.The factory lists the R/T at 340 HP and the Daytona's at 350 HP.I get around 25 on the road. Overall, I'm in the 18-19 range. A gal that works in the next office has the 3.5 engine in her Charger and gets 25 overall. If you live in a snowy area, you might want some peace of mind by looking for a all-wheel drive Charger for the misses. The also sit about an inch or so higher and have a great ride. I have had my power steering replaced (warranty) because it was whinning. No other problems with the car, but I am picky and keep it garaged and store it in the winter.

Good luck!

Here's a smokin deal on the #2 Toro Daytona
http://www.meltonsales.com/cgi-bin/m...p;key=ZCHARGER
The rest of the deals are good too. This dealership is just north of Tulsa, OK in a town called Claremore. I know the owners and they are good people. If that black one had the light colored interior I'd be all over it, but my truck is that dark grey with black interior and I ain't doin that again down this far south.

Hello,

I am in the market of buying a 1968 charger. one actually caught my eye so i went to the guys house to look at it. I have been a ford guy for a few years. i currently own a 1965 mustang fastback that i put plenty of money into. i finally talked to the owner and he agreed to sell me the car. upon inspectioni noticed the car is Moss green with a green top, air cond.,power brakes, power steering and an orignal interior(perfect interior). he said he would trade my for the Ford and cash. does anyone have input on this. i don't have the vin number yet. i am suppose to give him an answer by this weekend.is this a good investment or me?

Thanks

Hey,
I'm going to answer your question with my opinion, but you might want to check out the "Blast From The Past - Muscle Cars" area of this forum. The area has turned out to be the new Charger area.

Ah, good 'ol green. I think millions of Chargers were green -- this also keeps them at a lower value. Now if it was, say, GoMango, or Plumb Crazy colored, with a nice matching interior color, the price would be higher. Depends on how much you are paying and what is in the car: year built, condition, engine size, options, transmission type, and color all factor into price. It used to be they had to be numbers matching, but more and more of those cars are not available, and we now see floods of mismatched "custom" muscle cars that sell for almost as much. I sold my 1971 Tor Red Plymouth GTXwith a black vinyl top, Hurst 4 speed, 440 HP motor, and Dana 60 rear for $20,000. It was a driver, not a trailered show piece, but it was nice, shiny, fast, and loud. Sure I could have dropped in a Hemi and dinked around with it and trailered it to high-roller Barrett-Jackson; but many times you really never get what you want, or need, and you need THAT ONE person there to buy it. So I sold it on Ebay and am happy with my new Charger. Check out Ebay to see what real-world prices are.Good luck.
