EVIC is usually close but I have noticed that there is something about EVIC where the mileage keeps going down when I’m idling at a stop. I understand the mpg should go down at idle but it seems to end up lowering the EVIC mileage more than it should, about 1.5 to 2 mpg lower than calculated.

I don't know the algorithm they use but they have to go off actual readings from the gas tank, RPM, fule map, tire size, speed and/or additional variables.

I find the same with computer calculated mpg. Generally fairly close when going down the road but completely off in town. If you reset frequently perhaps but combination driving with a heavy foot will leave you walking to the pumps if you really on it.

It’s damn near impossible to get a completely accurate mpg.

When I fill the tank I can't tell if the pump cut off at the same place as the previous fill. Temperature, humidity and other factors can cause it to be short or long, so that throws off the manual calculation as well

I like having a written log just in case I sell the car. Some people notice detaild log of fule/oil changes as a sign that the car was well maintained.

I'm still getting between 25 - 28 on the highway (75-80). That's what the EVIC says. I reset it from time to time, though. In town, I can play a bit and still get 20+.

Now, I'm at a mile high and I still wonder if the computers make it run leaner at my altitude than you folks closer to sea level, which would make it use less gas.
