Passport or Valentine
This may be the wrong area . I was unable to locate another area to place this post.
I have only been pulled over twice in my to year ownership of the TorRed Daytona.I live in Houston. The police just stare me down.
Got pulled over for 55 in a 30 mph by a constable in my neighborhood. Pleaded not guilty and was dismissed. The second wasweird. A DPS officer pulled me and a fine *** lady in a Lincoln truck at the same time last week. i was following her. he spoke to her for about 5 minutes and did not even approach my car, he just waved goodbye to me. Luckily I am an ugly guy in a Charger.
I don't have a radar detector and thought maybe that might be a plus for me cuz the police see that I'm not trying to dodge them. However, I would like to know if anyone has the Passport or a Valentine. I thought initially Valentine was the best. However, after reading up and talking to friends, they say Passport.
Looking at the 8500X50 - The red display $40 cheaper than the blue display for some reason. There is a new 9500i - not sure if the extra money is worth it. Anyone own it and can offer suggestion?

RE: Passport or Valentine
I bought my Escort after I bought my Charger about 2 years ago. I have the Solo, http://www.escortradar.com/solo.htm, because there is no wires dangling around. It uses 2 AA batteries which really have good extended life. After no movement for a period of time, it cuts off automatically. That is good because I never remember to cut it off. I got it new, a lot less than retail,on a good deal on Ebay. Very sensitive to both radar and laser readings. No tickets so far, knocking on wood!

RE: Passport or Valentine
I'm39 yrs old and have received likely 100 plus tickets. I have paid 1 and taken defensive driving about 4 times. The rest I challange and they go away. Spending $1600 to have a radar detector installed in my car is a bit much. More power to you and thanks for the info. It looks like a great system. I have received and reviewed a lotof information and think the Passport 8500 is likley the best buy. Just want to know where the cops might be.

RE: Passport or Valentine
I run a 500 mile stretch from El Paso to Kerrville 3-4 times a month. the speed limit is 80 mph. There is a huge difference in radar detectors. I've played with the escort, cobra and beltronics. The beltronic and escort both picked up signal much sooner than the cobra. I mounted the escort in the truck and the beltronic 955 in the charger.I still need to hardwire into the cigar lighter on the charger. If you really strictly on your detector you are screwed no matter what you get. The ticket givers are using insant on and laser and unless there isvehicle in front of you that is being signalled you won't get an alert until you see the brim of their hat. POP modes and new K bands are on the horizon.I've run with some guys using the Valentine and they love them. I just couldn't justifyspending theadditional money. Money not being an object, I would buy a valentine and not think twice. I usually don't run more than 10 mph over, I've found a sweet spot at 2500 rpms right at 84-85 mph that the fuel saver mode loves and I can still shut her down with instant on, but you gotta have good light and be looking for them. Were the higher end detectors make a difference is in town or stretches of road that the ticket givers have radar on all the time. That's were a few seconds of intial warning on the detector will save you from a ticket.
