Default Predator Questions

Ok, I have the Predator and think it is awsome. I highly recommend it. But I have a few questions. I looked and didn't find the answers I was looking for so I posted this at Diablosport and and wanted to ask all of you too.

I am a noob when it comes to the tuner but here is what I have. 07 Charger all stock except for the Mopar CAI.

Question #1: After installing the 91 CAI tune my fans run all the time. What settings should my fan settings be? Also should I install a 180 or 190 thermostat, and then what setting should I use.

Question #2: I live in Colorado at an elevation of approximately 5280-5800 feet. We only have octane rationgs of 85, 87, and 91 due to the altitude. I have been told 91 is the same as 93 at this altitude but I would actually like some real tech advice before I blow up my car.

Question #3: Since I do live at a higher altitude are there any other settings I should adjust to help compensate for the lack of air density since I read about everyone else lighting up the tires and mine barely squeak. Although I have definitely seen great results with the Predator.
Thanks for the help.

1. I forget what the stock fan settings are for the Predator but it's well below the stock 203 t-stat. Stock your car probably runson average around210ish. You should replace the t-stat, try a 180 I think you will like it.

2. You will probably not have any issues, but if you wantuse the predator data logger tosee what your A/F ratio, timing is and any if any knock retard is occurring.

3. See #2 above, that will give you clues.

How many miles on your 07? I live in Albuquerque, and we are about a mile high, too. I don't know about the 07s, but the 06s don't really start running really good until they have some miles on them - at least 5,000. Although I was able to do this burnout about 2 weeks after I got my 06 (I've been accused on useing smoke bombs ), it really, really runs good now. I have about 16,000 on it, and have to be careful at times or the back tires will spin without much effort.

Mango, thanks for the info.I pretty much thought the same thing, but it's nice to have a second opinion. I picked up a new thermostast, I just have to find time to put it in.

74, I have put 14k miles on it in just under the 5 months we have owned it. I agree, it did seem to come alive at 5k (and I was in Seattle when I hit that so I really enjoyed it at sea level). But even with the predator I can't smoke the tires, which is probably a good thing considering the cost. I wonder if it is the brand of tire itself. I have the Conti self healing tires.

Hmmmm. Probably a dumb question, but you are turning off the traction control, right? I had Conti's on my and got rid of them cause I couldn't get enough traction with them.

One day, I will have mine at sea level, at least better air than here! I can hardly wait to see what she'll act like, then.

I just installed the predator as well and used the 91 CAI setting. The car pulls alot harder and seems to drive much better, but my fan runs all the time now. Is that coorect? Do I need to change the fan setting or replace the thermostat? 74scamp maybe we can get together to discuss a few things as I am not automotivly inclined, I just used the canned 91 CAI. I would be courious to know if I could fine tune it a little more but so far the car shifts sooooooo much better

Yes either change to a 180 t-stat or the 91 tune fan settings. The fan settings for that 91 tune are probably too low for the 203 stock t-statand the fans are trying to bring it down to it's settings.

Thanks for the info. If I change to a 180* stat will I get a CEL? Is it hard to chage out the stat? Is there any real benifit to changing out the stat, other then turning the fan off?

No you shouldn't get CELs w/a 180 t-stat.

To change the t-stat:

First make sure the engine iscool.

Use a 13mm socket to take off two bolts (see attached pic) holding the housing on.

Pull the housing (with upper hose attached) away from the block and you will see the t-stat.

....More than likely you will need to pry the t-stat out w/a screwdriver.

Remove the gasket around the OEM t-stat put it on the new t-stat and insert it back into it's hole.

Put the housing back on and the two bolts tighten it up and you’re done.

You will loose a little fluid but not much. Just add a little distilled water to the overflow.

74, I did have esp off. I tried with just the button on the dash, and the key trick. It just won't smoke the tires, or spin them very long.
