Kid at work just bought a 2001 Cobra. We're talking about going to the strip one night. I checked on line and the stock specs on it show 320hp @ 6000, 317ftlb @ 4750. Think I can take him? I think it would be close.

Is Ditka driving the Cobra?

 

I am afraid that you will get beat, because the cobra will have a lower rear grar ratio. I saw this happen on you-tube. although the charger has more horse power, the rear gear that we have 2:82 is not enough for drag racing.

 

I told him I was pretty sure he'd beat me, but I wanted to see how bad. My R/T is "pump" up a bit, but maybe we can have some fun, anyway. Just don't want to get my doors blown off.

I think you'll beat him. I raced a 97 cobra with brand new motor and other mods when i first got my charger. I had him all the way by a least a car or 2.
don't shift manually. just put her in 1st and smash it.

 

Well, thanks for the vote of confidence! I appreciate it. I figure he'll get me off the line - unless he smokes his tires. HEY!! I GOT IT! I'LL BLIND HIM WITH TIRE SMOKE!!!

Seriously, though. He may have a tough time launching. I doubt he'll have much practice before we do this. It would be nice, cause I think there's a lot of people at work that are planning on coming out for this little "grudge" match.

Well if the kid has some skill in the seat he clock off low 13's and I have seen 01 cobra's running 13flat 13.1 with just better rubber. But I'm going to assume he would only run mid-high 13's cause he just getting the car. So you should only be 1-2 cars behind him. But after 100mph he is going to start pulling away pretty good.

 

The Cobra should win, unless like stated, he cant get it off the line......

 

The kid has no idea whatsoever how to race. I'm not great, but I do have a bit of experience. My thought is that if I can beat him at the light, he'll panic, hammer the throttle, and just spin his tires. But, I think we'll have fun anyway. I think we'll get a group of people together from work and go out on a Friday night "grudge match" night, and just have some fun. You just never know what might happen.

But thanks for all the replies, guys. I was hoping to keep it close, and maybe I can by out driving him. Shoot, I'd settle for him just beating me by a length or two. (I'm trying to build up his confidence so he'll feel really good about it by the time we get to go. May work to my advantage).
