Default Key & Fob

Ok been looking for another key for my '06 Charger and have a few questions.

1. Does the standalone fob's work from '08-'10 on pre '08 modles?

2. How hard is it to get the key out of the fob to replace. I'm looking to buy a used key, reprogram it and get a new key cut.

Seems a bit crazy to spend $80 to $100 for a new one from the stealer.

Been running around with just one key and had to re-solder the battery conections on the one I have. Made me think that its time to get another one or two.

The fobik from the 2008 thru 2010 are not the same on the 2006 and 2007 chargers. Have you ck on ebay for blank keys/remote?

You probably know but you can easily program a new blank if you have two working keys.

So getting a key like this I can program myself and should work fine?

I dont really care about the remote stuff (i'm not that lazy) I just want to have an extra spare key or two as my wife has almost lost the only key we have and I've had to fix the fob part already.

Though I only needed one key to do the activation of the blank/new key?

From what I've read you need both, the worst thing that will happen is the firat original key will deactivate and will need programming.

Below are the directions for programming a new key. The documentation says that this method will only work on domestic(US) vehicles. Non US has to have the dealer program new keys.

1. Insert one of two programmed keys and turn ignition switch to on.

2. After ignition has been set to On for over 3 seconds but not more than 15 seconds turn the ignition back to Off.

3. With in 15 seconds insert the second key and turn the ignition switch to on.

4. About 10 seconds later the security indicator in the instrument cluster will start flashing.

5. With in 60 seconds replace the second key in the ignition with the new key. Turn the ignition switch to On using the new key.

6. After about 10 seconds the security indicator will stay on for about 3 seconds and then turn off to indicate that the key was successfully programmed. Turn the ignition to Off and you can now use the new key with the vehicle.

You can program up to 8 keys to a vehicle.

Guess what I'll have to do is buy a blank, have it cut then take it to a dealer to have it programed since I dont have a second key. Seems the safest thing to do.
