Default Key Fob for 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona Edition not working

One of my key fobs for my 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona Edition stopped working last week. I have a spare that works fine. I thought it might be the battery but after installing a new one, it still doesn't work. Does it need to be programmed again, do I need to take it to a Dodge dealership or do I have to buy a new one all together? Please help!

Hey jacobsdl welcome to the forum.

A lot of people had issues with the fobs, the internal wiring is not quality and there may be some loose wires.

I'd take it to the dealer & see what they can do for you.....

I called the dealer and they said my key fob needs to be reprogrammed. It costs about $45...not as bad as I'd thought! Thanks for your help.

Nice to see the dealership working with you on this. Those keys are expensive.

Default I had the same issue with my key

The dealership mechanic told me it would be about 45 also, but also could be a bigger problem where he had to reprogram the whole system for my key and ignition system, so instead of $45.00 I ended up spending about $500.00 so just in case you might want to save more money

Wondering how they could program a fobkey that quit working. They don't just become unprogrammed.

Default the key

So my car wouldn't unlock also, when I bought my car about a year ago it didn't come with a spare key, so one day after work my car wasn't unlocking and when I put the key in the door the alarm kept going off(AND THERE WASN'T A KILL SWITCH) so I called a tow company to tow me to the dealer, and the mechanic said,"Its gonna run you about 45-50 bucks"! but if there is a more technical issue its gonna be more, so he called me and told me that the it was the technical issue, that not only did I have to get the key reprogrammed but he had reprogram the ignition also! I can't say its not a rip off but I really didn't have a choice! Also would like to point out , to keep your key away from your cell phone I've heard it can cause key issues, it couldve been a factor in this situation, the mechanic said it may have been, but its just a heads up, to prevent money from coming out your pocket!!!

Hope this helps somewhat.

Yeah, key should have been about 157 I think programming 45 or so. Diag charge or any other fluff would have been uncalled for IMO. I mean when they go into the module to program the key if there are only key related DTCs it's kind of a slam dunk no brainer.
