Default P0305 help!

Hello all.

I have a 2009 Charger (3.5L) with 60,xxx miles. Check engine light came on a couple weeks ago. Code is P0305, cylinder 5 misfire. Dealers mechanic recommended tune up, and throttle body clean. They wanted $600. We declined and my husband did the spark plugs, air filter and throttle body himself. Code still comes up. Swapped #5 and #6 coils. Code came up again.

What should we do next? There seems to be so many possibilities and we're trying to take care of this ourselves versus high cost of a mechanic. My husband doesn't like doing it too much as he's used to older cars and not these newer ones.
I don't know if my suspicion is right or anything but I suspect my running low on fuel the day of or day before the light came on has something to do with this. My fuel light came on and I didn't drive it too much until I filled up my tank.

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks for reading.

you probably will need a cylinder head. Ask ur mechanic to run a compression test. And I believe 09 has 5yr 100k engine waranty, so check with your dealer.

Californian,

Only way I could see it being the code coming up because of the gas issue you describe is if the gas you filled up with had some type of contamination. After your husband performed the tune-up did you he reset the engine light? My suggestion would be if he did not or cannot, have any auto parts store reset the light to see if it returns, if it does you may want to have a dealer inspect it to determine the cause.

2009 vehicles came with a Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. If you are the original owner you have it, if you are not the original owner then only the 3/36 warranty applies to you.

Unfortunately I'm the second owner. I'm kicking myself because I had an '07 Charger but stupidly thought I needed an SUV as we were having our second child. 6 months later, am back in a Charger I was the first owner on the '07 and didn't need to use the lifetime powertrain warranty.

The light was reset. It didn't take long for it to come back up. It's been reset once, after the dealer initially looked at it. And after my husband did the tune up.
As for the warranty, this Charger I'm the second owner (at 65k miles right now). The car's running nearly perfect. It was idling a little shaky and I told my husband somethings wrong.. Then the light came on. The gas I got was what I always get. Arco.. Eek. Cheapy gas!

yeah... mis on idle only, it's possible that it has low compression. I highly recommend you to have ur husband rent a compression gauge from part store, and run a compression test on few cylinders.

Will try and get my husband to do it. It doesn't sound too complicated really. I will try and find a DIY guide for reference for my husband. Thank you for replying. I appreciate it.

Today my husband swapped two injectors to see if the code would change. This is what our friend who is a mechanic at Dodge recommended to do. Same code came back up. I swear the cars shaking more now.

Friend said if that swapped injector didn't do anything.. it probably needs a valve job.. he hasn't said anything about the compression?

I'm calling the dealer here in town to see how much it'd be to do a valve job if that's what it needs.

I'm interested in opinions regarding EGR valve? I'm no car expert, but I do like to understand my car and all that so I did some searching. Rough idling, rough at low speeds, but smooth driving at high speeds are signs an EGR valve needs to be replaced.. I'm wondering if this could be my problem?

Wasn't able to talk to the mech at the dealer here in town. Need to call tomorrow morning.
