Default 07 Starting Issues - continuous clicking

Hoping to get some expert help. Have an 07 Charger that I bought my son. Had starting issues during the winter...car would be running fine, starting in -20 weather without a problem. He would be driving, then run into a store, come out, try to start, and it would be dead. This happened several times through the winter. Sometimes had a really hard time boosting. Changed the battery even though I thought the battery was in good shape.

Replaced battery, and spring came...problems seemed to be over.

Now we just had to go tow the car. He was driving, no issues, went into a store. Came out, started driving car, and the car died after 1min of driving. Can not boost car. When key is turned to on (not cranking) the is a repeating clicking noise (not a weak battery type of clicking).

Towed the car home, battery still seems fine, but the clicking starts every time the key turns. It will not crank. Tried hooking up a reader...only get error messages.

Opened front fuse box. The clicking noise is coming from the ASD relay. If I pull it, the car will crank. Have no idea what is causing this. Pulled the starter fuse and relay...no issues with those.

Not sure if this is a starter problem or something more in the ignition.

Would appreciate any guidance or suggestions. Thanks

Just a quick edit...the clicking is continuous for 30 sec or so, then will take a second off, then restart. Turning the key to start does nothing.

Swap the ASD relay with another one, see if anything changes.

That is definitely an interesting problem..... Why it will crank when you pull the ASD relay is a real head scratcher. Do you have a scanner you can plug in??

So I’m making the assumption that the scanner is not connecting because of what is happening with the ASD…is that possible. Or is that a separate issue?

the scanner is working as i’ve use it on other vehicles.

i’ve been trying to look up what would make this ASD issue, but can’t find anything. Is it possible that there is an issue with the ignition itself?

Anyway, Thanks for the feedback, i appreciate any thoughts on where to go.

Does the scanner get powered when you plug it in? (ignition on....) I don't have wiring diagrams for your car, so, don't which wires should be doing what..... I assume your car has a check engine lite, does it come on when you turn the ignition on?
